Collection: Legacy Club

The Legacy Naming series began in the 1990s, when Mori first offered customers the rare opportunity to name one of his original Cattleya orchids. Until then, he personally named every orchid—always honoring friends and family—and each name carried his signature “Volcano Queen” designation so its origin in Volcano, Hawai‘i was unmistakable.

Why call it “Legacy”?
Most people who choose to name an orchid do so in memory of a loved one—leaving their legacy in the orchid world forever. Only a very small number of Mori’s hybrids are selected for naming and cloning, making each Legacy orchid truly one of a kind.

Why is it so expensive?
Creating a new hybrid is a labor of love that spans more than a decade. From the first pollination to the very first bloom takes 5–6 years. Mori then evaluates hundreds of seedlings from that cross, searching for the one exceptional plant that meets his rigorous standards. Only then does he decide whether it is worthy of cloning.

The cloning process begins the clock again—another 5–6 years to produce a batch of identical plants. Out of hundreds of seedlings, only a handful ever make it through this meticulous selection. The time, care, and dedication behind each hybrid are what make Legacy orchids so rare… and so valuable.
